Umbilical hernia after resection and stoma reversal

Does anyone have any experience of developing a umbilical hernia after recently undergoing a high anterior resection and stoma reversal? It feels like the last straw for my mum who is facing chemo and a possible liver op for her secondaries. She is also getting problems with too much stomach acid and eating anything that isn't a child portion. Her weight has plummeted and she can't seem to gain any. She is taking proton pump inhibitors for the acid and fybogel for constantly blocking up.

    Hi

I am sorry that she is struggling. It took a few months for my digestive system to settle after my ileostomy reversal. Are you sure that it is an umbilical hernia? I had a hard irreducible abdominal lump in the middle of my abdomen and the surgeon said in my post op appointment that it is where they oversew the hole in the abdomen when they get rid of the stoma. They gather the abdominal wall, gather it in a lump and then sew over it several times to make it extra strong. It did eventually get smaller and now I don't notice it.

I hope that your mum's is that and not a hernia. Has your GP or nurse tried prescribing the milkshakes that help you add calories? It has been mentioned before that sneaking extra fats into the diet by adding cream and butter to safe food like rice pudding and soups helps.
