I had treatment for sigmoid colon cancer last Easter and have recovered well. During the op the surgeon nicked a vein which resulted in a small haematoma which took a while to heal but eventually felt fully healed. Over the last week I have experienced pain bottom left of my stomach where the colon was joined and pain where the nick/haematoma was. Both sites, deep inside, feel sore and I’m worried. Any ideas anyone? I’m so surprised as it’s so long after the op.

  • Good evening,

I haven't posted on here for a number of years. I would like to reassure you that I had exactly the same problem in 2012 and have constantly had pain at the bottom of my left hand side where the bowel was joined and where the liver was resected in 2014. I have been back to the hospital for my six monthly check ups and am told it is something that will go away eventually, however the pain is still there and I have learned to live with it. Sometimes the pain is worse then other days, and sometimes its like a shooting pain.  I've had a hernia operation too, and one other operation when they discharged two litres of gunk from my stomach which I later found out was ecoli. I was also told the liver wasn't resected as far as it should have been (surgeons mistake) and initially this worried me but not any more. I have now been discharged and have 12 monthly blood tests with my GP.  I don't even think about cancer any more, if it comes back so be it. Do not worry, I am still here almost 8 years later and believe me I have been extremely ill.

Hi Jody, thank you so much for your response. I thought I was going mad but it seems not! Ok well I will just put up with the bouts of pain unless they get crazy then I’ll talk to a doctor I think. Thank you again and I’m glad you are recovered. Amanda
