Surgery postponed

So having finished all my treatment on 14th June I waited the required six weeks for scans. I met with my oncologist again who said that the tumour responded well BUT it was to close to the pelvic wall for Poole hospital to operate and I was referred to Southampton. I then had scans 12 weeks post radiotherapy on 5th September and waited to hear from Southampton. I eventually met with the surgeon on 25th September to be told my operation would be in November. The operation was going to be major and my stay in hospital would be about 3 weeks. I geared myself up for this only to be told mid November my operation would not be happening until 2nd January.

I took the positives from this except my daughter would be returning to Australia on the same day as my op. I then was told they had a cancellation and my operation would be on 19th Dec, hooray! So once again got myself geared up for this, I just want it over and done with. Today I received my letter of confirmation of admittance to hospital next Wednesday 18th and that I should phone to confirm I was happy to accept that date. I did this immediately only to be told that it's changed again and because they had to cancel someone yesterday they have given this person my slot next week and I have to wait again until 2nd January.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. When my journey started on 28th Dec last year I was told that it would all be a distant memory by Christmas this year, how wrong they were.

Anyway I'm sure it will come good in the end but just felt I needed to share this. I'm not expecting loads of replies, I know people have gone through worse just had to get it off my chest.

  • Oh Rita , so very frustrating. The whole theatre management is just another layer of stress  on what is already a tough set of circumstances.

To have it moved forward then back again is a bit rubbish and I can totally understand that would weary anyone .

Hope your daughter gives you a good lift .

    take care ,
