When should I be told the grade and stage of my cancer. Im having my final generic chemo on Fri 13th Dec and still do not know

  • Hi . I was told an estimated staging at my first meeting after my scans. The final official staging will be after surgery when the tumour and surrounding area that has been removed is sent off to the path lab for testing.

My surgery was in 15th July.  No proper surgery follow up the consultant met me in September told me I was going to have chemo and that Weston park hospital would look after me he thwn left the room he did not even check my wound or explain hernias etc

The nurse that came in after him told me to contact my stoma nurse if I have any problems. My oncologist has emailed him requesting info several times but not had any replies. I have called his secretary asking for info and am still waiting for answers

I know that there were 2 possible primary sites and it had spread to the peritenium and that treatment is different for both in the end the Basingstoke lab said they coukd not determine the primary site yet but suggested that they start a generic bowel cancer chemo. That was in September

  • Hi ,

I can see why you find that concerning . Sounds as though the oncologist is having trouble getting info too !

Would your GP have it ? They normally write back to the original point of referral to update them to allow their records to be accurate .

The other thing you could do is formally ask for access to your medical records . PALS could help you . Or you could phone our helpline 0808 808 0000.

    Take care ,
