Hi everyone
I saw the surgeon last Monday where he said he had got all the tumor out with the surgery and I now have to see the oncologist about wether I need chemo and then it will be the reversal of the illostomy , well this Monday I received the follow up sent to the Doctors and it said I had some extramural vascular invasion EMVI . I couldn't help but Google this and it mentions that it means it's going in the blood vessels has anybody else had this? I'm a bit worried now . Thanks in advance
Lots of love

Hi Peacock62
Quite a lot of people mention this but one thing I keep in mind firstly it’s completely removed with good margins , in my mind the most important one. Then they look at all the other factors to determine the clinical pathway . So someone with no lymph node , clear margins , no EMVI , favourable cell type probably does not need chemo . Someone with one or two indicators provides a picture that says to the oncologist chemo in a belts and braces situation would be of benefit and increase overall survival . Even people with one lymph node involved gain benefit.
Someone like my mum probably had most factors apart from her cell type was favourable. Yet another factor came into play , she is super responsive to chemo ! So it’s only one small piece of the jigsaw .
Just remember it’s all gone and this part is belts and braces .
take care ,

Hi peacock62
i too have been told although they managed to get my tumour out they have found some cells in the blood vessels (my lymph nodes & organs clear) . I am V1 high risk apparently so they want to do preventative chemo.
I am waiting for a perennial wound to heal by vac pack before they can start this but I’m worried about the delay in starting chemo.
I would be interested to know also if anyone has had this situation crop up as well

Hi
Yes, I got this diagnosis after my left semi colectomy last May. The tumour was 5cm non hereditary, non aggressive. 19 Lymph nodes were removed...all clear. However, some emvi showed up in the origins of the tumor site.
After talking to the oncologist a few weeks later, she was adamant that I did not need Chemo based on the biopsies. She went into the Stats.....85% chance of survival after 5 yrs. & only 5% extra, if I opted for Chemo. She also went into great detail about the cons. of Chemo for older people - which sounded not nice at all.....& so I opted for her supposed expertise. I thought that the statistics, ie, 5 in 100 people that might benefit from Chemo. were too low for me to consider. 6 months later, I am still unsure whether the decision I made was the right one. However, only time will tell I guess.
