My husband has stage 4 colon cancer and is having chemotherapy but the metastases are starting to spread again after improving for a while.

Has anyone got experience of whether salvestrols can help.

  • Hi ,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband’s situation . I have actually never heard of it before . I had to look it up .

You might like to ask our helpline staff 0808 808 0000 to see if they could access any information for you or research .

Have you explored immunotherapy ? Some pretty good results but not sure how widely available it is . There is also a worldwide clinical trials app if he is MSS .

I could look it up for you if he fall into that category.

    Take care ,

    Thank you Court

I am not sure what MSS means. Can you explain please

  • Certainly . Bowel cancer splits into two groups . Roughly Speaking Micro-satellite Stable (MSS) and Micro- satellite instability (MSI) .  MSI patients have in the past had fewer treatment options but are having a good response to immunotherapy . In America they are now offered Keytrunda as first line treatment .

In America they have also experienced some patients that are MSS but have a high tumour mutation burden have also responded to Keytrunda . There has been a few clinical trials in the UK on and off so it’s worth having a look into them . Some tumour testing is required to get this information so you would need to speak to your oncologist to see what information they have . Cancer research uk normally has a comprehensive list of all the bowel cancer trails and locations . I have not looked for a while .

There might not be anything suitable but it’s worthwhile having a read up on Keytrunda and asking a few questions . If you google MSS or MSI bowel cancer you will find a more accurate definition.

    take care ,
