Manchester meet up

Hi,

I would like to try and start a Manchester / Cheshire group so that people can meet on an ad-hoc basis in a relaxed atmosphere.

Throughout my treatment the one thing that has been lacking is that personal contact with other people who were going through the same thing or who had finished treatment. I would have loved to have met someone who could have been my ‘Bowel buddy’.

The online forums are great but nothing can replace the personal experience of chatting face to face.

I have just finished my treatment now so I have the time and energy to try and get this going. I would love to offer support for all new patients and also for those like me who just feel a bit lost now that treatment has ended.

Please get in touch with me if you feel the same and would like to meet up.

Thanks,

Sarah.

  • Hi Sean,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve had a few responses from Bowel cancer UK in-line forum too.

I’ll give it a few more days and then suggest we meet somewhere.

  • Hi Sarah

Just thought I'd mention there is a colorectal cancer support group that meets bi monthly at the Maggies support centre just across the way from the Christie hospital in Withington, just in case you were interested. The next meeting is this Thursday 21st November 2pm-4pm. Quite a good turn out last time- it meets bi-monthly .

    cheers

  • Hi Sean,

Thanks for your message. Yes I did know about the bi-monthly meetings at Maggie’s. Unfortunately I can’t make the meeting on 21st as I’m at Penny Brohn.

What I would like to establish is a network of people who can meet on a more ad-hoc basis, either for coffee & a chat or as a larger group for an event such as a walk.

Whilst I am sure the bi-monthly meetings are good, but the problem is that if you miss one then that’s it for another 2 months.

    Cheers

    Sarah

  • Thanks Karen,

I hope it takes off but I’m not sure how many people are keen. Fingers crossed a few want to get together.

    Hi superfly

Is there any chance to reach the support group if I come late about 4 pm? Maybe somebody staying longer going for a coffee after or anything?

  • Hi there

so sorry, have only just seen your messages. I had to leave just before 4pm.

Maybe catch you next time or we will have a Manchester meet before then

    regards

  • Hi Sean,

What date is the next meeting?

I'd be happy to organise a Manchester meet - how about sometime in January?

City centre or suburbs - Altrincham / Didsbury?
