Hi, I'm new to this. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in November 2018 and have gone through a colostomy with no problem. Since  then I have had 5 weeks of radiotherapy and chemo followed by an anal perineal  resection. Am currently having more chemo but am struggling with the old waterworks. Am up just about every hour during the night and when I get to the loo the flow is weak and the amount minimal. Anyone else had this problem?

  • Sorry you are having this problem . Radiotherapy and surgery can affect the pelvic nerves, giving this sort of problem. Have you told your team about this.? Help,is available, and you could get a UTI  if you are not emptying properly. Good luck.

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

Thank you seaspirit44 for your input. Yes my oncologist is aware of this problem. I have seen my GP today and am clear of infection and now await results of a blood test to check my prostate. Yet more waiting but hey ho just keep going as best we can. Cheers.

I found that Tramadol pain killers caused major issues with my water works when taking them following the initial loop colostomy. As soon as I stopped taking them all went back to normal! I no longer have such issues though following my urostomy.
