Hi guys I got diagnosed with bowel cancer on the 4th July and was informed I needed a sigmoid surgery which would be keyhole. On the 30th July I had surgery which turned out to be not keyhole due to my large pelvis so I was cut open. I had part of my bowel removed along with the cancerous tumour and it was all sent away for analysis. I spent a total of 11 nights in hospital a little longer than usual but due to an infection picked up. I have now been told chemo will be needed as some cancerous cells have been found in a vein attached to my bowel. I am now just waiting to see the oncologist team for further treatment.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the board from me. Looks like July was a month you won’t forget! Hope you’re recovering ok from the op - it’s a big op so take things easy and rest when you need to and no driving or heavy lifting for at least 6 weeks.

Chemo is not the nicest of things but it is doable and will blast anything that may (or may not) still be lurking. Chemo has a lot of side effects however there are tablets and creams for most of them and your doseage can also be reduced to combat any problems.

Let us know how your appointment goes and feel free to ask anything you want - there is no question too daft or embarrassing on here!

    Take care

  • Hi ,

Big welcome from me too . Glad you are safely through surgery . There are great people on here who have experienced what you are about to go through . They are brilliant and share their knowledge with others and help them through the process too . Ask anything you like and they will try and answer .

Wishing you ever best wishes as you embark on chemo .

    Thank you Karen

I definitely wont forget July as I also had to cancel 2 holidays 1 in Brighton and 1 for Rhodes as I was unable to get insurance. The problem being as my diagnosis is within the last few months and the future treatment of chemo is still unknown it left me no choice but to cancel the holiday. I have an appointment with the oncologist team on 12/9 so should know more then about my chemo.

    Regards Mark
