Citramag v Movieprep

Has anyone ever been given Citramag?

In the past when I've been given Movieprep the instructions were to start a low residue diet three days before taking it.  With Citramag the instructions I've been given only talk about low residue foods on the day you actually take it.

I'm wondering why the time difference in diet. Is Citramag more powerful than Movieprep maybe?

    Hi .

Is it low residue on the day you take the Citramag, or the day before? Although I guess that depends on what time of day your procedure is; mine has always been in the morning, which meant that fasting started right after a small low residue breakfast the day before the procedure.

I've had both Citramag and Moviprep. With the Citramag I was not told anything about low residue diet, just clear liquids on the day. With the Moviprep I was told to have low residue diet the day before and then clear liquids on the day.

However, with the Citramag I was also given a load of Senna tablets to take a set time before the first dose of Citramag. Unfortunately I have discovered that I have some sort of intolerance to Senna as the meagre contents of my stomach came up about 30 mins later. Which is why, for my surveillance scopes, I am now given Moviprep which does not require the Senna tablets.

That being said, in reading up on low residue diets and allowable liquids for the fasting day, I was looking at guidance from different hospitals about diet and bowel prep before colonoscopy, and there does seem to be a bit of difference between various trusts. I did for example see information from a different NHS trust re low residue diet for three days prior, but in my case the instruction was for only one day.

    All the best,

    Yolande

  • Thanks Yolande - that makes sense.  Practice must differ from hospital to hospital
