Hello
Very glad to join this forum. May I ask for any much needed advice on dealing with late side effects of radiotherapy for rectal cancer (received back in Feb) .This is on behalf of my uncle, who is struggling with symptoms from one to the other, i.e. constipation followed by the 'cant' wait' problem and urgency to find a toilet, so much so that he is now worried to leave the house and it seems to be getting no better after several months and trying things to help.
I'm sure this is a problem being dealt with by many brave people .We have an appointment with the consultant next week, but any advice or tips from others is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Becky
Hello Becky and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear your uncle is having post radiotherapy problems. I am not from this group, but I had pelvic radiotherapy on my bladder and suffered similar problems. I am well familiar with the urgent need to go and had to plan any trips knowing where the next toilet would be. It took 3-4 months for things to settle down for me, but did return to normal. Your uncle's GP should be able to help. He may also be interested in obtaining a radar key for disabled toilets and a Macmillan toilet card. Details if you click HERE . We also have an expert here where you can get professional advice in Ask about radiotherapy . In the meantime, it is important he keeps well hydrated, so a bottle of water at hand all the time. Best wishes.
