Hi all
I've just finished 4 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy with 7 zaps to go. I have got through with not too many side effects mainly fatigue and nausea . I've now started to get a sore bottom the nu has given me some cream and her exact words were
concentrate on the crack this weekend!!!
If anybody has any other tips I'd be very grateful
Thanks in advance

Hi Peacock62. Gosh only 7 zaps to go yay. It’s important to use the cream that the nurses gave you rather than anything you might have lying about at home as things like sudocream can have tiny zinc particles in which must be avoided.
Other things to try could be using very soft toilet paper or even washing your bottom after going to the toilet? Avoid food that might cause excessive Bowel movements like curries, pulses, alcohol.
Hopefully the cream that they’ve given you will prevent the soreness getting any worse but speak to the radiographers if you’re struggling.
Glad that you sound to be coping with it so well
Take care

Hi Karen
Thank you for the tips will persevere with the cream . I am already on a low residue / low fibre diet which although is quite strict I am used to it, have a craving for a bowl of strawberries though !!
The diet has helped me get through this treatment as the oncologist wanted me to have a stoma first in case of a blockage lucky for me my surgeon said he would do an emergency op if needed. Thankfully all has been ok and am now having BM better than I've had for months. I'm hoping this means the thing has shrunk a bit !!
Thanks
Peacock62
Hi Peacock62
I managed strawberries ok with my stoma but, if you’ve avoided a blockage so far, then you won’t want to risk blowing it now!
My Bowel movements improved throughout my chemoradiotherapy and I had 75% shrinkage so everything crossed that you have the same - if not better!

Hi Peacock62!
I’m just a couple of days ahead of you - I’ve git 4 zapping sessions to go !!!
so I also have sore bum problems, mostly on the skin above my “bumholio” it’s quite raw and set and as Karen said, was told to avoid any creams with zinc in (until I finish, she said once I’ve finished I can use them again). I’m currently using a cream whose active ingredient is Hyaluronic acid to repair the skin. I would give you the name of the cream but I’m in Italy so maybe search for a product that contains it.
Well done for doing so well! Nearly done! Then the side effects should wear off - hooray!
Stay strong

hi @peacock62, i had what i called, blowtorch arse ,in my last two weeks of treatment, i may be wrong but when i saw the nurse and told her how bad it was i am sure she got me a steroid cream, and the blowtorch was put out within a couple of days,it might work for @strongsami on her bumholio. cheers john xxx
Hi everyone thanks for all the tips I shall ask the nurse next week if they have any steroid cream to nip it in the bud . They just gave me E45 cream .
You guys are such an inspiration to me for what you've already had to cope with .I hope I can be as strong for whatever lies ahead just want to be rid of 'the thing'
Sami well done only 4 zaps to go when you've finished I'll just have 3 left am looking forward to swimming again

Sorry guys been looking in bathroom cabinet to see if tube was still there, but no it must have been disposed, all I can say is ask the nurses, because I know it was steroid cream, I know how you feel, I used frozen peas once, not a good idea,. Take care. John. Xx
Hi stronsami and Peacock62 yes you certainly have got this, we are right with you my husband has just two sessions to go.
unlike you two though he has not had problems with his bum, he went the other way and needed to take laxatives for just a couple of days, he is still on normal high fibre diet that we have always had, but then of course he had to come off chemotherapy two weeks in, really hoping that all three of you have excellent outcomes of treatment just like cyclingjohnny xxx
you have all got this xxxx
by the way how are you doing for tiredness?. My hubby is getting really tired now, he can be ok then feels suddenly like someone pulled the plug and energy goes completely.
cyclingjohnny
how long did it take for you energy to return?
thanks x
Hi John thanks for looking .
I think I'll give the peas a miss LOL
