Anxious wait

Can anyone offer any reassurance.  My boyfriend had a ct scan last week as part of his surveillance program which they bought forward a few weeks early due to our gp suspecting a possible hernia and him having some discomfort in his lower abdomen.  He’s 12 weeks post stoma reversal. When I phoned our colorectal specialist for feedback she said there was an abnormality.  It was discussed at an MDT meeting and they have referred for a pet scan and mri. She didn’t tell me more than that. We are seeing our surgeon next Monday and I assume we will find out more.

What does this mean. His last ct scan was in jan and was clear although did mention a lesion on his liver, but there was no concern around it. I feel it’s awful to keep us waiting like this wondering what is going on.

Please if anyone has any words of wisdom please reply

thankyou.

Hi Len. I can't offer any advice on scans but I know the waiting  game we all have to play is so hard.  I liken myself  to an ostrich  with head firmly buried  until I have to come up for the results. I have to block it out and deal with today.

  • Hi ,

I do think it’s unfair that she/ he did not elaborate on what was concerning . It causes the mind to shoot off in too many different directions . Probably unnecessary.

Often the scans are used to rule out as well as to rule something in . Someone at the MDT meeting may just want to clarify the liver Met is not of concern rather than just assume it is not . The PET scan is the best way to do this .

Hopefully the meeting on Monday will help give some more accurate information but I also think they can not fully understand how you hang on their every word .

The waiting game is horrendous and the mind goes into overdrive.  We have a pet scan tomorrow afternoon then mri is due Monday afternoon.  It’s a shame they didn’t squeeze the mri in before meeting our consultant but there we go.  Hopefully he will have some result from the pet scan depending on how quick they get it to him as we have to go to another hospital for it as our local hospital doesn’t have a pet scanner.  I just wish we could move on from all of this.

  • Hi ,

Been thinking about you . How did the PET scan go ?

Hate the waiting with a passion and it’s getting worse where we live .

    Hi Court.

yes, so had the pet scan Friday, a long wait, what with having to sit with the dye an hour before the scan. Hopefully the consultant will have looked at the report by the time we see him tomorrow morning.  Our appointment is first thing so be glad to get it over with, very anxious to learn the outcome.  Then my boyfriend will have his mri scan tomorrow afternoon.  A shame they couldn’t squeeze that in before seeing the consultant but that’s the way it is.

    Thank you for your message.
