Hi all, hubby just has five more sessions of radiotherapy (25 in total) then he has completed this part of treatment, we saw the oncologist today and she said will be 8/10 weeks then scans etc then MDT a meeting then we will be seen again, she suggested that in those weeks it would be a good idea to take a holiday, she suggested UK based holiday just wondering what others did re taking a holiday during that POst radiotherapy period, would you say it’s a good thing, it sounds goos I must say, we are wondering if anyone done a uk cruise whilst in this waiting period, any thought or suggestions?
by the way he is feeling ok since he came off capecitabine mainly now just feels more tired, does that increase or decrease as the weeks go on?
thanks in advance xxx
Hi process. Yes go for it! I went to Cyprus for a week and it gave me something to look forward to. They do recommend making sure that the skin is well protected so I used factor 50 cream and was careful in the sun.
I would think that the tiredness will decrease as the capecitabine works it’s way out of the body and a nice relaxing break will help too.
Big congrats to your hubby on doing so well with it all and hope you get something booked
Take care

Hi process. I think the insurance that my husband has with his bank account still covered me at this stage of treatment. I’ve since been insured for travel by googling ‘holiday insurance for cancer patients’ and putting my details into a money supermarket link that came up. I know I’m a lot further down the line than your hubby but I’ve just paid £16 for a week in Italy with a company called Allclear.

Sounds like a brilliant idea to me .I know I'm a few day's behind your hubby but when I was first seen by the consultant and he was almost certain it was cancer we had a holiday to Thailand booked , he arranged all my scans super quick and told us to go on our holiday as we would just be waiting for the results
It was the best thing we did although it was never far from my mind it really helped me get through

Hi Process that must feel good knowing only 5 more to go and then a chance to get away , I have done the same and gone down to my holiday home in Cornwall to relax and recover a change is as good as a rest
Hi oh so glad to hear you have got away, hope that means you are now feeling much better? I hope so.. yes the chance to just have a break from daily trips to hospital sounds good, today was long day, but it is not a complaint just a fact, we know the reason he is going is to hopefully get shut of the unwanted visitor!
Cornwall is a lovely place to have a holiday home, you enjoy the rest I just saw weather forecast for your part of the country and it looks like going to be good, wetter and cooler for us up north!
Look after yourself and thanks for your support xxx
Hi ,
I like the idea of a UK cruise as some of the bigger boats have a medical unit and a couple of Doctors on board . I ended up down in one and it was rather impressive . They don’t hold onto you either and are quickly taken off the boat .
In the early days we used Jersey as well as it had cover for NHS treatment and could still be taken home . Not Gursey though ! We look st holidays in a whole different way . Saying that we are in Poland having a ball !!
take care ,

I just looked it up and they only have a reciprocal agreement and does not cover everything . It was about five years ago now . I was sure that’s why we had picked it too . Maybe they have clarified it better . There was i thinking we were coveeed . She had just had her lung surgery as well . Maybe when he is a bit further down the road as it was so easy to get to . But too risky just now with it being an island . We got caught out on a Scottish island as my mum started having chest pain late at night . It really made me cautious .
Hope you get something sorted .
