PIP ahoy!

Well, I finally got my PIP form sent away, thanks to the superb assistance of the Macmillan support people in Leicester, who have been, as you might expect, truly amazing. They made a stressful thing into something I was able to handle. Not fun, but I am currently a whole order of magnitude calmer than if I had to do it myself.

Now we wait... and wait... and wait...

I have also been informed that I am probably owed anything up to six months back benefit from Universal Credit. When I started on it, I was told not to send a sick note, and everything was sorted. This means I am getting the medical elements as well as the base UC, right? Otherwise, I would have been put into the waiting list for assessment within thirteen weeks.

Neither of these things happened. They only asked for a sick note a month or so ago, and said I was now in that thirteen week assessment process.

So, all those months between November and April, I wasn't being given the additional benefit money, and I wasn't being sent for assessment, either. I was in some sort of limbo. I need to ask what the heck was going on. Right now, I can't pay all my utility bills as my income is so low on UC. I've applied for a Macmillan grant, and been told it is all being sorted, but I've been waiting for weeks without any sign of it turning up. I am, understandable, stressed as can be about this.

I need a holiday. *8-P

  • It's just dreadful what the welfare system puts you through, . I do hope you get some money soon..

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • As is the way of such things, mentioning the problem in the open tends to resolve it. The Macmillan grant cheque arrived today, and it has saved my bacon in several ways. It will pay off the outstanding bills, and leave enough over for me to get my bicycle repaired after some inconsiderate idiot knocked it over while I was shopping the other day. Without it, I am unable to go anywhere that is more than a few minutes walk away. It's an electric bike, and one of the most liberating purchases I have ever made.

As for the PIP thing... I'm ready to fight. RAWR!

  • So pleased for you, you can relax more now hopefully.   It makes me sad and angry that there is enough to deal with the treatments etc of this disease no one should struggle and worry financially too....

hope things stay smooth for you including you bike xx

  • The cancer is directly responsible for the financial position. I had to spend so much on travel and accommodation during all the tests and treatment, that it completely ate all of my savings, and left me dangerously unable to pay bills. I do not mind doing the travel, as I had wonderful treatment. I am so glad Macmillan were able to help me redress the balance.
