Hi.
I have my first oncology appointment next week. I've had the tumor in my colon removed but am being given some chemo as well.
I was wondering what to expect from the first appointment? I have list of questions to take with me!
Thanks for any replies
Hi ,

There are many people here who will share their experiences of chemo with you and I am sure they will be along soon .The oncologist will explain all about the treatment process and schedule. They will give you information on the chemo and all necessary side effects with contact information to ensure you are fully supported .
We are also here to assist you through the process and additionally we have a helpline 0808 808 0000 you can use at anytime.

Hi . Great news that you’ve had the tumour removed and you sound ready and organised to face the next step.
Your Oncologist will probably go through the recommended type of chemo, how long you’ll be having it for and you may even be shown around the chemo unit although that was done on a separate occasion for me as part of an induction meeting.
You will no doubt be advised of all the side effects of which there are many HOWEVER you might only get a few of them or barely none at all so please don’t panic. There is always support during your chemo from the nurses in the unit to the 24 hour helpline that you will be given and, of course, us here if you just need a bit of reassurance. There are pills and potions for all the side effects and, if 1 doesn’t work, then the nurses will suggest another. Chemo is not pleasant but it’s doable and worth putting up with to put the belt and braces on your treatment.
Hope the meeting goes well and welcome to the board!
Take care
