Hi guys.

In February I had my first colonoscopy aged 47. A large polyp was found.  Biopsies benign. Had it removed this week. Surgeon is pretty happy that he got it all out, inserted 5 clips and burned away any rough edges. I am now suddenly terrified about the biopsy results of this polyp as a whole. Could there be full blown cancer at the core? If so - Is the fact it seems encapsulated in benign tissue a good sign? (I.e. initial biopsies). Has anyone been through a similar experience?

Many thanks

Julie

  • Hi jdfb, I hope you do not have to wait too long for a result. It is more likely than not that the polyp is benign. When the final histology report comes through , that will give the completc picture. There may be normal cells inside, precancerous cells, or early cancer cells. Whichever of these scenarios is eminently curable with the removal of the cells. It will have been caught very early , carrying a good prognosis. Ypur, team will be able to,give full, details. Good luck xxxx
