Good morning!! I’m new to the group and wanted ask you all a few questions . I’m a 43 year old man who had emergency bowel cancer operation on September 27th 2018. I had a colostomy bag fitted and I’ve recently had it reversed on the 6th of March. What my main question is I’m now 9 weeks post operation and I’m still very sore where the stoma was and I’ve a sort of bulge on the other side of my scar ( chest to pubic line) which looks absolutely horrible to me and it’s a little sore too. Has anyone else had any of these problems? My tummy looks like a butt cheek. I had many complications over the last 7 months , my join split leaving me with sepsis (twice) and many drains put in to drain infections. Be good to read your replies x

My mum has had so many abdominal surgeries. Not the same as you but enough and it has flattened out somewhat over the years .

Hi Lee
Welcome to the online community and I'm sorry to hear you are having problems after your reversal.
I've not had a reversal as I have a permanent Ileostomy which had just been reformed after a parastomal hernia and blockage.
This is not the usual comments we receive after a reversal and I would suggest that you contact your GP or it could be that you are due to see your consultant for your review after surgery if not it could be advisable to contact the hospital who carried out the surgery to have them examine you with all your notes in front of them.
I certainly would urge you to seek medical advice as soon as possible to have a look at the bulge and explore the cause of the soreness near to the stoma site especially as you have had so many complications since your initial formation of your Colostomy.
If you have trouble contact your GP it might an idea to contact NHS Direct on 111 and speak to a duty doctor
Please could you keep us informed how you get on as your time permits.
Ian
Thanks for your reply. My stoma site had to heal from the inside out, so basically I was left with a golf ball size hole , so I’m assuming that’s still healing and that’s why it feels a bit weird at the moment. My bulge is on the other side of my stoma site and I’ve been to see my GP who ‘thinks’ it could be a hernia. I’m seeing my colorectal nurse on Monday so hopefully I will get some answers. Appreciate your time .
