Update from my previous posts and thank you to all that have been supportive to me.

my husbands treatment is planned to start tomorrow 5 weeks of radiotherapy along with 5 weeks of chemotherapy (capecitabine)  husband is keen to just get this started now.

today we went for our planned routine dental check up, been booked for months, dentist told hubby he has gum infection and needs antibiotics, he had told her about cancer diagnosis and treatment tomorrow. She said to start antibiotics and tell oncologist tomorrow'.

we were concerned about starting antibiotics, but also concerned if he didn't start them, what to do for the best?  I rang hospital they said to take them but to speak to a doctor tomorrow in the radiotherapy dept.

worried treatment may be postponed, but if that is what is needed......just bad timing

anyone on here had this, or been on antibiotics when starting treatment?

this was probably the last thing we thought we would be thinking of tonight.

thanks everyone, any thought?

  • Hi court, sorry for late reply we only got home late tonight.  Been a long day.  The treatment went ahead, radiotherapy day one been done and first dose of chemotherapy now been taken, he is on his way, I'm sure we won't be at the hospital as long tomorrow, well we hope so, and realise now we should have taken some nibbles as we were very hungry by the time we got home.

thanks for asking and supporting xx

  • Great news . It is exhausting getting through the hospital routine . The second year my mum had chemo they admitted her and gave it overnight as she slept . She still had to be there at nine in the morning so we would get her bloods done and then with permission go to the coffee shop . Can’t let anything stand in the way of a good coffee and cake !!

Hope today goes quicker and smoothly . He is well on his way now and it will be getting to work !!

His journey to wellness again has begun .

    take care,

  • Hi

Good to hear that your hubby’s treatment is up and running. I was given a 5 week list of appointments when I started my treatment but I asked if I could change to early morning ones so I could go into work after and also because there wasn’t a back-log by that time so less waiting about. Might be a thought?

Make sure you keep his hands and feet well moisturised and hope his gum infection starts to clear up

    Take care

  • Thank you court, that's what I try to keep in my mind that journey is back to wellness and it's now started, we did ask for early appointments but didn't get them, we saw yesterday the wait time increase from 15 mins to over an hour as they day went on. I'm sure today will be quicker xx

  • Thank you Karen, and for support. We were just given week of appointments all later in afternoon but we did ask for earlier ones as we have a long drive, they said they would make a note but can't promise, however yesterday we were given next wed appointment and that was 2 hours earlier so fingers crossed, but we have started and countdown clock is ticking.

where you on capecitabine? By the way.

    love m xx

  • Hi

Yes I had 5 weeks of mon-fri radiotherapy and chemo tablets then about an 8-10 week break before surgery. I had to have a full bladder for my zapping so was hopping from foot to foot after some delays! I found it to be very doable although my feet got a bit tingly towards the end. The nurse said I’d had a moderate response to treatment but I found out later that it had shrunk the tumour from 4cm to 1cm which I thought was pretty good!

    Take care

Hi Margaret, I read Karen's post it's worth asking about the full bladder thing, because when I had my treatment I had different accelerator's every day and different views as to whether it made any difference or not,may be Karen was told a definitive answer, some of the staff told me it made no difference, cheers John.
