Here is my story. To cut it short after numerous visit to GP since last October and been sent away to be told you have GERD increase Omeprazole for acid reflux. Finally last week I said you need to investigate this further. I have been having incomfortable feelings sensations in al of my tummy from the stomach to the bowel to the sides. Lots of wind burping constantly and occasional nausea. GP visited me and said your tumky feels ok. We did a stool test for micobiology and came back negative. Calptotectin test result 3000. She called me to inform me she did a urgent referral to GI she wants me to br seen in a week. I have read extensively about Calprotectin IE iflammatory mark. I have also read that some people had Calprotectin value of 4000 - 9000 - 1800 - 2000. Of course my worse fear is that is cancer. Suffering from health anxiety does not help as I catastrophise what will happen. The only symptoms I have is the ones described above. I go regurarly every morning no diahorrea no blood no mucuos no pain. I have had a fissure for sometime that has been bleeding occasionally when I go. But very little.
Can anyone please tell me or share with me their story. I know that Calprotectin value of 3000 is high. All my blood test are ok no anemia nothing. What can I expect to be told by GI? Or what can they find? Thank you for any reply.

  • Hello AG68

I am sorry that you find yourself sufficiently worried to be posting on a bowel cancer website. I googled Calprotectin and it came up with it being a measure of inflammation which doesn't fit for being cancer, they do other blood tests for cancer markers. Also your symptoms sound like upper GI issues rather than lower bowel and certainly don't fit with my own bowel cancer symptoms. I would suggest as a non expert that it is unlikely to be cancer but really you won't know until you see your GI specialist. The waiting is horrible, we have all been there and good luck

    Hi Nicky

thank you for your reply. The reason why I posted here is because this high level of Calprotectin are also a marker for bowel or colon cancer. GP told me that is a possibility. I suffer from very high anxiety and I tend to catastrophise and think of the worse. I have always had upper GI problems since teen age years. This time it feels different hence why I went to doctors many times before they did some tests. Thanks for the reply.
