3 weeks ago my husband underwent an emergency sigmoid colectomy.  As a result of a CT scan 12 months ago following an accident they found a thickening on colon which needed investigation.  A colonoscopy abandoned as they couldn’t get through blockage on first bend. Then CT scan struggled to inflate for the procedure.  Couple of weeks later called to see consultant for results to be greeted by see you in 4 days time for surgery.  Asked for results of CT and told looks like diviculitus but as it’s growing from both sides need to see what’s underneath.  Surgery was open not keyhole as he needed to look at bowel.  Hubby recovered really well and discharged 5 days after surgery but no pathology results.

Now today told by consultant secretary results sent to Gp but consultant on holiday for 2 weeks,  Rang GP who said he can’t give results only consultant can.  He did say he couldn’t see anything untoward in results but when asked if that was good news was silent.

i going to suggest hubby requests coy of us results tomorrow from both hospital and GP.  Am I right that he has a right to see them?

  • Hi ,

How very frustrating . I am not sure what the correct protocol . My mum’s GP is happy to share her clinical portal information with her but she is much further down the road and I am not sure if he would have at the point of diagnosis. He most certainly can see his medical information but it may take some time. I think you might want information quicker than that .

I would phone our helpline 0808 808 00 00 . It’s free and the staff will be able to guide you on how best to make the system move quickly.

Staying silent is a bit unfair if you ask me . It’s highly anxious and that does not help .

    take care,
