Hi everyone,
I called my colorectal nurse yesterday to ask if my routine CT scan results were back. She spoke to the surgeon and called me back. I was in a state of panic and just wanted reassurance after my stage 1 diagnosis last year hoped all would be straightforward with my follow up scan.
She told me there is an indeterminate focal abnormality on my liver they are going to arrange a liver MRI to see what it is. She said it could be something could be nothing.
They booked me in next week, then the scanning department called to offer a cancellation for this afternoon which I have taken.
I'm terrified. Especially after being diagnosed at stage 1, I wasn't really expecting this.
Help and reassurance needed desperately.
Thank you xxxx
Hi .
I was called in for an MRI after my CT when first diagnosed for the same reason. The nurse said it is quite common to have benign lesions in the liver (called hemangiomas or something). She said you can be born with them and live with them all your life without ever knowing until you have a scan for some reason. Mine was just this and they just confirmed that it was unchanged on my last scan so fingers crossed it is the same for you.
If it does turn out to be something suspicious then it looks like it will have been caught very early and there are lots of people who have been successfully treated for this and then remained cancer free afterwards.
Great to hear that you’ve got a cancellation - please let us know how you get on
Take care
Karen x
Hi Karen,
Thank you for your reply.
I think I'm just worried because my liver was clear on my staging CT scan last March.
All other checks have been normal. I'm glad that I got the cancellation so quickly as waiting is just torture trying to behave normally in front of the children.
Xxx
Unfortunately it happens a lot here . The rest of us probably have them too and are none the wiser as we don’t get scanned .
I can absolutely reassure you there was no need for an MRI scan when it’s an obvious spread . None of that happened for my mum so you can be assured it’s something incredibly small . Even if it was something that would be very treatable .
Glad you are getting a quick scan to let you put this behind you.
take care,

Hi Court,
Thank you for your reply. Like Karen you are always on hand with reassurance and advice. I check in here regularly but rarely post.
How is your Mum doing?
I have been lucky to get this cancellation today.
Thanks again. Trying to keep distracted... 16 month old is into EVERYTHING so that helps! Xxx
I don't know if it's 'normal' procedure, but it happened to me. My cancer was found during a colonoscopy, and the consultant ordered a CT scan and a MRI whilst I was still having the colonoscopy. It's so they can check if it's spread or localised, so they can come up with a treatment plan. It's a worrying time, but once all the results are in the consultant has a clearer picture of what's going on.
Hi process,
It is standard procedure as far as I'm aware to have a CT scan of chest, abdomen and pelvis when a tumour is found in the rectum during colonoscopy And also an MRI of the pelvis. This guides wich treatment is needed.
This is what happened to me last March. Has my operation to remove tumour in April last year and final results were stage 1.
The CT scan that I had last week was my annual 1 year follow up. The MRI I'm having this time is to take a look at my liver. Completely unexpected to be honest.
Please don't panic. Everything sounds completely routine for your husband xxx
Thank you namof3 and jersey lily for replying, I just went into but of panic, since I posted the nurse just rang so I asked her and she said yes it is normal to get both cat and mri scan,
mamof3 I do hope that your mri goes well for you today it was your thread and i hijacked it sorry.
Jersey lily I hope your doing well it still sounds early days for you
your both ahead of us, gives hope To us hearing good outcomes but not nice bus to be on this big C
God bless you both and thank you xxx
Don't worry process. I'm exactly the same when I read things! It's good that you got reassurance from the nurse as well. It's such a stressful time.
I'm hoping that this is just a blip but could seriously do without this worry!!
I hope that your husband is doing OK and that he finds out his treatment plan as soon as possible after his scans. I know how stressed you must be feeling xxx
Hi ,
Mum is doing great thanks . Bit of a rough winter but bouncing back in her usual style . Thanks for asking .
Hope the MRI went ok ,
