has anyone else tried this drug, I am starting a different chemo regime on Thursday then adding avastin next cycle
Hi , I'm glad they are offering you something after saying there was nothing to be done. Did you get a second opinion? Sorry I can't help with the Avastin, but wish yiu the very best of luck x
Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Hi
Hope everything goes well with your husbands scan .
Has he been keeping well on chemo ?
My mum is ten years into her stage 4 diagnosis. Hope he gets a good response to treatment .

Thanks for your reply - it’s always good to hear about people that have lasted a long time given the stage 4 outlook. Generally he’s OK - he has had a few ulcers in his mouth but if he takes his mouthwash as he should that tends to keep it at bay. He has an injection the day after his chemo finishes to boost his immune system (which is only every other session not, rather than after every session) which affects his bone marrow but only lasts a day or so (gives him painful hips). He hasn’t had sickness or diarrhoea which is good and we’ve had a cheeky weekend in Spain a couple of weeks ago which did us both good. He has a scan on Monday and should have got the results next Wednesday but the consultant is on holiday so we have to wait a week! Just have everything crossed the treatment is going well.
I love that you made it away for the weekend . That’s fantastic and I bet you both were needing the break .
He sounds as though he has handled chemo incredibly well . I am glad he has access to Avastin .
Being able to handle treatment is half the battle . Waiting for scan results is rotten . My mum is still waiting for results for scans at the start of March . We were waiting to book travel insurance and eventually phoned up . She was given the green light to travel so we have taken that as a positive . Keeping life going is so important. Her oncologist is fantastic but there is recruiting problem in radiology!!
Hope it’s good news all the way for him .

We do love our holidays I have to say but am not sure what we will be able to do now. Sounds like your mum is doing well - that's a long wait for a scan result though! Like you say the waiting is awful - we think it's bad waiting 9 days!! Hope you enjoy your trip.
They withheld my treatment for a week as mouth ulcers been very painful otherwise I am not too bad, really hoping the avastin works as I am counting on it, not sure the chemo treats my type of tumour very well as it is less common so I am not getting my hopes up with that part
Are the mouth ulcers a side effect of the Avastin? Wasn't sure if it was that or the 5FU treatment (I guess it could be either). Sorry to hear that you are suffering badly from this. Hubby has quite a painful tongue too that swells. I hope that it all goes well - must be very worrying for you. Hubby has his scan today - I was on the phone to make sure we had approval for it with the insurance company and the very nice lady on the end of the phone asked how I was - I just sobbed for about 5 minutes!!
Yes not sure if side effect is one or all three of the drugs, it is fortunate you have insurance, we don’t and the fees are very expensive
Yes I know. It’s been a godsend to be honest. Do you mind if I ask how much the fees are? Feel free not to advise if you’d rather not.
