Have any of you experienced cancer Ghosting? It’s where friends and relatives suddenly disappear when you announce that you have cancer. It’s a recognised syndrome apparently- Google it. I am afraid I have experienced it. It can have a big impact.
I hate it when they say your made of strong stuff you be fine .....
All of these show they don't know enough about cancer and how it affects patients. So I tell them.
Plus they don't know how to talk to us. So then I try to encourage them to talk normally by asking about themselves. Once they calm down a bit we can have a conversation. Sometimes it works.
Fortunately I'm not the first of my family and friends to have cancer. But these crass comments by others can be really wearing (or funny).
