Greetings from a very windy and cold Walton Le Dale. I am looking for advice and information from wonderful BC group. I had a tumour removed from my bladder three years ago HighGrade pT2. Following a nine week course of Chemotherapy- Gemcitabine/Cisplatin I had 32 sessions of chemo radiotherapy. Apart from a minor recurrence all my flexible cystoscopies have been clear. I am now on six month cycles and due a flexible cystoscopy in the next two weeks. For last 10 days or so I have had a pain in right side of my back and once or twice a very slight tingle when peeing. Today I noticed a few drops of blood in my urine. Other than discomfort in my back I feel well.I have dropped off a urine sample at my GP surgery and await a call from her tonight. I have contacted private hospital where I am due flexible cystoscopy to see if that can be rushed through but got answer machine. Left a message.
Anyone else had similar or can offer any advice?
stay safe

Hi Garviv, we all know only too well the significance of a few drops of blood in urine so you are absolutely right to get this checked out. Sounds like you have done everything you can to speed things up and I hope your GP will get back to you promptly and provide some reassurance and a plan of action. Hopefully it is nothing of any concern. Sending love x
Hi . A year or so after my radiotherapy, I passed some blood and know how scary it can be. I phoned my CNS who explained that this is not uncommon as long as the blood is not significant. A long term side effect of RT is that after time, some blood vessels rise to the surface of the bladder and occasionally tend to pop. Advised the usual intake of water. Since then at subsequent flexis, I have discussed this with doctors as I see these clusters on screen. I am told it is a condition called Telangiectasia (try saying that after a few pints) . Similar to varicose veins or spider veins. Not serious unless heavy bleeds. I had my latest flexi a few weeks ago and again these red patches were pointed out to me, but after over 20 flexis, i am used to seeing them now, and have not caused any problems. Saying all that, this is just my experience and yours may be something different, so as H says, always good to get professional advice. Hope all goes well with your flexi and they get you in early. Best wishes.
Thanks Rily, GP examined my urine sample and said there is no apparent infection. He said he will write to mu Urology Consultant to try and speed up flexi. Many thanks for your advice and experiences. I will keep everyone informed. 2 large bottles of IPA and peri peri chicken tonight as part of self medication. Garviv
Hello Herothedog GP has been in touch and urine sample I gave shows no sign of infections. He is contacting my Urology Consultant to speed up the process. I will be glad if my flexi gets done as soon as possible. Thanks for your concern. Garviv
