Had an RC November 2024 , all clear December . Various checks throughout 2025 ( apart from water retention in left kidney only a little ) ups and downs as usual . NHS have been fantastic not only with the cancer but also advice and equipment ( including erectile dysfunction) . I had a follow up scan 4 weeks ago and after ringing for my results : I was told all good and another one booked for next year . I should be well pleased and grateful but for some reason I’m feeling very down and sometimes weepy. Don’t understand why ?

  • Hi,This is a common reaction judging from reading other boards.I know I went through it during recovery from cystectomy. One of the dr’s on the ward was saying that any major surgery will affect mood and emotions. If you haven’t read it the paper by Dr Peter Harvey on what happens after the treatment finishes is excellent.I hope you feel better soon.Best wishes Jane

  • If you type his name into the search box it should come up with the paper.

  • I think the blues and even weepyness visit many of us now and then. It can be triggered by reminiscing followed by the realisation that the future looks more difficult or simply by the release of the stress when given an all clear for several months or a year. I try to defuse these feelings by distracting myself with music, sometimes watch some comedy which was a past favourite - even if I have seen the content many times before. More rarely, I let the emotions gently vent in  private then feel mildly surprised that it has helped. This forum can often assist with understanding and shared experiences. I hope you soon regain some chirpiness and reflect on your good news. Best wishes,   Ray
