Hello folks, I've just joined the group on behalf of my elderly father who is currently undergoing his first series of BCG treatment having being diagnosed last year.
I've had some questions milling around in my head for a little while now, and having looked through the posts I have already found answers, so I thank you for these, my mind is eased considerably knowing we are not alone.
I'm watching with interest the question regarding when my dad will be able to have his covid vaccination, as due to his age he has already been called for his vaccination, but we have put if off until after the completion of his BCG which is next Tuesday. Speaking with his Nurse today, it seems there is no real guidance being given nationally around when he can have the vaccine, but it is suggested I book him in for a week after his BCG on Tuesday. It will be a huge relief to get my dad vaccinated, as navigating cancer during covid is definitely a challenge we didn't see coming, so it will enable us to get through any further procedures/treatment for the cancer.
Keep safe everyone and good wishes for your treatments.
Hi popcan and a warm welcome to the group. Great to see you here supporting your father. Still a bit of a grey area regarding BCG and vaccinations but hopefully your father can get his. I hope all goes well with his treatment. Lots of varying experiences here, so usually someone will have an answer for any questions you may have. Best wishes.
Hello popcan.
Glad your father is coming to the end of his BCG. Someone described the period after as a "bladder holiday"!
You've probably seen my posts about what I have been told; six weeks by Macmillan and two by my surgery. I am having my jab today two and a half weeks after the end of my second BCG course. Fingers crossed!! There didn't seem to be national guidelines about the gap between BCG and the flu jab either.
All the best.
Gandulf.
I don't know how old your Dad is; I am 77. I had the Pfizer vaccine. He can be reassured about the jab as I had no significant after effects apart from soreness on the vaccine site (which is apparently quite common) for a couple of days.
I think he will have finished his BCG for now; I hope it all went well.
