Hi all Have been offered vitamin D supplement via the Matt Hancock you are a vulnerable person letter. Anyone else had the vitamin D supplement and if so is there any evidence these tablets work or are of benefit for Bladder cancer patients? I have signed up for the supply which is due in January.

  • I've signed up too AllotmentP. I think statistics show that most people in UK don't get enough Vit D from sunshine. I once read an article interviewing 10 top medical doctors /professors with a range of specialisms. They were each asked if they personally took any supplements, and without exception they all took Vitamin D. I know it's anecdotal evidence but it convinced me.

    • A few years ago I had to see a rheumatologist who arranged some extra blood tests. My vitamin D level turned out to be incredibly low so I had to have a course of the vitamin to boost the levels. That was arranged by the gp and I did feel better after a few weeks.I think it’s worth taking.I had no idea I was deficient,I eat healthily and spend time in the garden.Jane x
  • Yes I also had the letter and signed up for them, I’ve been taking vit D for over a year now after doctor recommended them for painfully boobs, they did help with that not sure if they do anything particular for bladder cancer but as we don’t get out in the sun much they can’t hurt x

  • I've signed up for them. It's supposed to help my psoriasis and that needs all the help it can get.

  • Thanks all for the responses. Looks like the vitamin d can be beneficial so will give it a go.

  • I've signed up too, my loss of mobility due to GPs in hiding in March onwards means I've hardly been out to get any sun. [Relieved I can now walk thanks to 2 lots gout tabs but legs weak as a kitten from disuse.]

  • Hello Allotment, Yes I signed up for vitamin C tablets following sweet letter from our friend Matt mmmmm. I asked my doctor for a prescription for a weeks holiday in sunny SunnySpain. Not received a reply yet. Stay safe Garviv

  • I got the letter and went to sign up but noticed on the government website it said do not get them if you are undergoing treatment for cancer, as your calcium levels may already be high apparently. So on that basis I decided not to proceed. Was that guidance wrong ?

  • I would ask your pharmacist. Note the word 'may' - not everyone's treatment is the same.

I am in a medical trial re bone density, not cancer, and my calcium levels are monitored by 24 hr urine collection. Easy to do, they supply a container.

  • Don't think I'm eligible, but did buy some to take as I'm not outdoors so much at this time of year. Can't say I've noticed any difference in how I feel, but who knows?
