I had a biopsy done last week the tumour was near the left ureter. I was getting pain in this area before the TURBT but i am still getting discomfort, and a sharp pain in to the left side of back every now and then. Has anyone else had this?

  • Hi and welcome to the group. General aches and pains are not unusual following a TURBT. Being close to the ureter doesn't help as the wound is aggravated as the ureter tightens and relaxes. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Saying that, it is always wise to contact your medics with any concerns to be on the safe side. Have you been allocated  CNS who is always your best point of contact for help. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thanks for your reply. Yes I remember being sore after my first TURBT I had done 7years ago, but this feels different but will contact the CNS if it doesn’t settle down

  • Hi Bex500.

I had my first TURBT in July.  At first, there was pain; it turned to discomfort and it took about a couple of months before the discomfort disappeared. It took me quite a long time to recover and get over sheer fatigue. rily has good advice; if you are worried, contact your CNS.

    Most importantly, look after yourself.

Take care and keep in touch. All the best.

    Gandulf.

  • Hi Gandulf,

Thanks for your advice. Hope you are doing well now. I am still not feeling great I’m hoping to get my results this week so will mention it when they ring unless I get any worse in the meantime then I’ll ring the CNS.

    Take care

  • Hi Bex . Waiting for results is always an anxious time and probably one of the most common phrases used right across the board here. The waiting never gets easier and we always fear the worst. When you get your results, you should be given a stage and grade. This determines the next step, but once you have a plan in place, it does take away a little bit of the worry as you have something positive to focus on. Best wishes.

  • Hi Rily,

Yes you are right the waiting is the worst part. I didn’t get to speak to the doctor after the operation so I don’t really know much how it went etc , but I believe the tumour was removed ok so I’m feeling positive about things. I didn’t have any chemo in to the bladder after this op like i did with my first tumour years back. So will have to wait and see what the results show.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Bex

Just to say that I too have had much pain after the TURBT.  I felt so ill after my first one that I thought I'd rather have a leg, an arm, & both boobz removed rather than go through that again.  But then I had many more & it sort of settled down.  Then the last thrice I'ver felt in terrible pain & had an almost instant UTI.  Hopefully you'll feel better soon x

  • Hi Blanket,

Sorry to hear that sounds like you’ve been through it. Yeah I guess each op is different for pain and recovery. I guess it’s still early days. I hope you feeling better now x

  • As ever please check with your pharmacist. Having said that I ply Mr D with daily cranberry tablets and he has never got a UTI after TURBT or flexi, even though he'd had several over recent years before the BC diagnosis. Not forgetting the diluted Lemon Barley water either at vulnerable times.

    Best wishes, Denby

  • I got my results it was a ta grade 2 same as what I had once before. I’ve got to have a scan done, and some blood tests in the next few weeks. I mentioned the discomfort I am still getting she said it could be inflammations near the ureter have got to keep an eye on things. Pain was really bad last night and all day yesterday but has eased a bit this morning.
