Been waiting since March, when I had a Pet Scan following my second TURB. All seemed clear but consultant wanted a Ultrasound with dye at my next flexi.

Been told to eat nothing after 6 am.  My tumour was creeping up the ureter and whilst they think they got it all, still want to check.

Anyone had this done, and how is it done. , and I wonder why NBM from 6am. Flexi is at 11-30 am

  • Hi Foxbrush,I haven’t had this done but I wanted to wish you well.I hope it all goes smoothly.Love and best wishes.Jane xx

  • I should imagine that the scan could pick up the food & it doesn't want to see what you had for breakfast Grin It will give a clearer image I think.

  • Hi . The contrast dye highlights things and gives a clearer picture of what they are looking at. The no eating is  to clear your bowels as a full bowel blocks things out. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thanks all, it appears the ultrasound is invasive and done under a GA, at the same type as a cystoscopy. Hope they take out anything they find at the same time.

  • Well I had my small op and understand now what it was all about, so will describe it for others faced with the same. I didn't find out what was happening until I met the surgeon for the op.

It was a rigid cystoscopy under GA firstly for the bladder, then dye was introduced and tracked from the kidney down the suspect ureter and into the bladder, this is where the last tumour removed was creeping up.

Then a camera was introduced into the ureter and checked for any abnormalities.

I am so happy to say the last surgeon did a good job and no new abnormalities found, then a night in hospital where the wind situation from the other patients will remain in my mind for some time.

Just to add, first question on waking was do I have a catheter and no I didn't so knew they probably didn't find anything. But later on the ward I had bladder retention and had to have a catheter and have come home with one.

  • Hi Foxbrush,I’m glad you got through your op and that all is well.Love Jane xx

  • That sounds like a really good result foxbrush. Great that your consultant wanted a thorough investigation and great that there were no new abnormalities. We love an all clear! I could imagine the odd raised glass this weekend. xxx
