Hi all , i have been looking at info on the site for a while now and today decided to join! my story is .... about 2 years ago had the sensation of needing to pee all the time and generally feeling tied , sometimes blood in pee , i went to my GP who arranged for a flexible cystoscopy to be done at local hospital, had this done and doctor found a 4 cm tumor growing over left UO , a week later had rigid cystocopy to remove it , turned out to be G2 pTa , this had grown over the UO almost completely blocking it , the surgeon removed as much as possible , after this procedure i was getting a lot of kidney pain and following a ultrasound they found that the ureter was blocked by scar tissue , so back in again to have more scar tissue removed , 3 month check up found another tumor, had this removed and a stent fitted through my kidney and down into my bladder to try and ease the obstruction in the tube, told me this should only stay in for 3 months max, then Covid struck! so last week after waiting for nine months the stent was removed , and another one was fitted , they tried a balloon dilator but put the stent back in , i have been told this should only be in for four weeks and then this will be removed via a flexy cystocopy with just a local anesthetic? this is a 24cm stent and i am not keen on having this taken out without some sort of sedation , I have had seven generals in the last two years and do not really want another , has anyone had a 24cm stent removed like this and am i allowed to insist on some for of sedation? thanks in advance
I've had a long stent (kidney to bladder) removed that was exiting through skin, with no anesthetic at all. Cutting the stitches holding it was briefly painful, but the stent itself coming out was no problem. I think if it's via the urethra, the anaesthetic is to numb that, like having a flexi cysto normally. Worth asking if you can have sedation if you want, but you may be worrying unnecessarily.
Hopefully someone with same experience as you will answer too.
