As I just said I’ve just received a phone call to go along with my shielding letter, at first I thought it was a scam but now I’m not sure as wasn’t asked anything personal, just address and DOB. He was a very nice chap. Has anyone else received a phone call.

Also I don’t see how my BCB ended 6 years ago can put me in the shielding group. X Stay safe everyone x

  • Just heard on the TV that yes they are phoning everyone on the shielding list, so at least it wasn’t a scam. Thanks x

  • Hi Sue I had a phone call about two weeks ago. I have to say I didn't notice the word "shielding" in my letters (I've had 2, one from Dept Health and another after from NHS using the words "extremely vulnerable"  and "clinically vulnerable". Nice guy phoned, asked if I needed help with shopping etc. Being on that list has meant I get my Sainsbury's weekly delivery without any problems I think. I feel like the system has been marvellous to me. xx

I wish someone would get in touch with me!! My husband had a stoma 6 months ago and is not shielded but unfortunately I am, so except for dog walking, he is staying home to protect me. My rheumatologist told me to stay home for 12 weeks and the Practice nurse has offered to come to my home to carry out a blood test so she knows, But I've never had a shielding letter or an offer of help from government or local council. Our daughter is also at home with her family due to her son's leukaemia. I know it doesn't matter as I am shielding anyway but it would be nice to be offered a regular supermarket slot of nothing else. Rant over!!!

  • I was a bit taken aback H with the phone call, thought it was a scam as I’m always getting them, so I just said I was ok and didn’t need anything, wish I’d thought about it and got a shopping slot now. How do you go about getting one? not very computer wise lol.

Jenny J.J. there’s only certain things on the list, I’m sure I’m on it due to BCG immunotherapy. C

  • I've had Sainsburys home delivery since August 2016 when I broke my arm and couldn't drive. I pay an annual fee so all my deliveries are free. Obviously when the crisis started I was already on Sainsburys data base. On my account page where you complete your address details there is a box at the end for special instructions. I put that I was over 70 and on Dept Health vulnerable list because of treatment for bladder cancer. Since then after first two weeks I have been able to get deliveries by keep checking till a slot becomes available. I have a hunch that provided you request a delivery 7 days or longer since your previous one, the vulnerable priority gets you a booking. My latest Sainsburys order came today bringing the saturday Guardian. First time I've had one for a month. Coffee and the paper... bliss. x

  • Thanks H, explained very well, think the first thing I have to do is create an account with Asda’s, I’ve just done the gov thingy, things you have to do lol. I may enjoy this on line shopping lark from the comfort of my arm chair xx

  • Hi Sue yes I got the email texts and a phone call about a week ago I am at home with my wife so she goes out and gets the shopping although I do go for a walk once a day keeping said 2 metres apart. I hope those who need help get it in these trying times.

  • Hello Everyone

Exactly two years to the day when I finished my chemotherapy sessions following removal of bladder tumour. I went on to to have radiotherapy and given all clear. Months later discovered superficial tumour which was removed. Last flexible cystoscopy March 2020 all clear. I received a letter again no mention of shielding. I have had a phone call from the nurse at my GP surgery and from my local council. My wife does the weekly shop no problems apart from the ubiquitous shortage of flour. I walk the chocolate Labrador for one hour each morning keeping the two metres distance at all times. Missing my children and four grandchildren but thank goodness for technology where we can see them all.

    keep safe and well

  • I’m going to contact the health centre for clarification about shielding. The breast surgeon and Macmillan agent said I should be shielding but I’ve had no letter.I would have thought that anyone recovering from major surgery might be more vulnerable.Love to all Jane xx
