Hypocrisy and Ineptitude

Hello fellow BC people. I managed last Monday to have a flexible cystoscopy albeit it should have been completed in January. All clear thank goodness but a further check required in four months time. The following day the shut down begun.I feel for all those cancer patients who have had appointments and procedures cancelled because of staff shortages during this dreadful time. Ten days on and the governments record on testing, provision of PPE for our wonderful NHS staff and ventilators for needy patients is abysmal. The hypocrisy from Ministers and the clown we have for PM who exulted us all to social distance whilst bragging about shaking hands with Nurses and Health workers beggars belief and guess what he and Matt Hancock got the virus.

The news in the last few days regarding the testing of NHS staff and provision of safety equipment in our hospitals is extremely worrying. At the height of the crisis our MP’s have started their Easter break early with Parliament only due to reconvene in three weeks time. It is vital Ministers and Health officials performances and decisions are scrutinised and questioned by MP’s. I have emailed my MP today demanding he requests a recall of Parliament immediately albeit using video links and other self isolating technology in order Ministers are cajoled and instructed to increase NHS testing quickly and intensely and to provide the necessary equipment in order to deal with this virus

Rant over! Stay well everyone

  • Garviv,

Glad to hear you finally got your cysto.

I don't believe that either of them ever had the virus.  Truth is not the MP's strongest point.  They just don't care.

  • Thanks Blanket

  • Brilliant news that you got an all clear Garviv. I bet it was heart-lifting despite everything else x

Couldn't agree more ref recall of parliament. We crucially need parliament's scrutiny of how the government manages this catastrophic tragedy.

  • Irrespective of what's gone wrong and who is at fault, as a former project manager, I want to see experienced, solution finders leading the charge to source basics like scrubs, face visors, virus tests, sanitizer & ventilators. It really isn't that difficult.

For example, the NHS needs +90% alcohol sanitizer - the brewers & distillers can resolve the supply shortfall in less than a week - they brew beer & distill spirits in huge volumes every day. Packaging lines can be adapted to produce what's required. All it needs is for them to offer or be instructed by HMG.

A few big firms can't solve this but many small firms working collectively can. We have the know how, the tech and the will, we only need the government & civil service to grasp the opportunity.

Some of us retired folk may have to get back to work to help the rest of UK deal with this - I'm up for it. The sooner we reduce the number of confirmed CV19 cases and reduce the pressure on the NHS, the sooner we can restart treatment of cancer patients.

Meanwhile, the rest of us need to stay at home (four foot snake).

Well said CB, I think the Government should be hiring you to sort the mess out. X

  • Yes great news but slightly offset by the current crisis. However, it’s Friday and it’s curry night! Chicken Rooster madras(home made) and garlic naan bread washed down with a bottle of Rioja. Off for my daily five mile stroll with our 12 year old chocolate Labrador.

    Stay safe and well

  • Pleased to report that my local pub has started doing take away dinners on Fridays & Saturdays, that gives me a night off the hob! I am looking forward to normality, necking a pint or two in the bar, once this pestilence is over and were released from house arrest (apart from walking the dog).

My neighbour said to me yesterday, 'Keep your chin up' to which I replied, 'Which one?'

  • Cannot listen to Matt Hancock bragging about freeing up 2500 bed spaces as if it some sort of success ...no thought of the consequences of cancelling urgent operations.. Am truly worried the continued delay in my operation will spread the cancer to other parts of my body and shorten my life...of course everything must be done to save lives of those people who have Covid 19 a terrible virus. Rant over

  • Totally reasonable to worry about the delay implications for "ordinary" NHS procedures. These are scary times. Perhaps I could share a bit of black humour? I thought I had come to terms with the likelihood my life being shortened by bladder cancer now with Covid 19 I aspire to live long enough to die from BC Slight smile Love to you at this tough time AllotmentP x

Totally understand where you are coming from herothedog, I was given my diagnosis this Tuesday, was due to have a radical cystectomy, now postponed, been offered chemoradiotheropy to kill off the cancer with 3monthly scans and turbt if it returns, to buy me some time, it's traumatic enough being told you have it, let alone you now can't have life saving surgery, nothing we can do about it, just live and hope
