Unfortunately my BCG treatment has had no effect with new tumours raising their heads...so now the recommendation is a cystectomy ... Birmingham has just cancelled 9 waiting due to the little virus, so it is suggested mine will be in 3 to 6 months ... who knows possibly longer. I can’t quite decide if thats a stay of execution or just an execution!

I’m currently in “lockdown” at home as husband and daughter have symptoms of covid19. So I’m playing waitress ++

The good news is “From April 2, under the banner of National Theatre at Home, every Thursday (7pm GMT/2pm EST) will see a new National Theatre play released – free to watch for one week”  apparently via youtube..So that gives us something to look forward to each week, if i can make the TV work and manage to find youtube on it without my IT support team

We have to keep looking for glimmers of sunshine

lots of love

  • Hi Josefena, sorry to hear BCG didn’t work for you. You sound very pragmatic about everything, and incredibly stoic about coping with delays in your treatment and currently being the waitress in your family. Sounds a lot like taking one day at a time which I definitely find the least stressful way to cope. Not easy so well done you. Today the sun shines bright and we haven’t had any rain for quite a few days. The sea of mud round my house is drying up nicely at last. I watched first episode of Malory Towers on BBC i-player with my grand daughter (on rural lock-down with me) yesterday. Lovely litttle blast from the past with gorgeous 40s sets and wonderful shots of steam trains. Thanks for heads up ref National Theatre at home. Sending love. x

  • Of course it's between you and your doctors who know most about your individual case, but I do want to give you this: My husband had a sizeable new papilloma only a few weeks after his 6th BCG. So they said he could choose between more BCG, chemo into the bladder and going straight for cystectomy, supposedly "equal" choices. Totally shocked as we were, he opted for trying the Mitomycin chemo. It hasn't been a totally hitch-free year, but after several treatments and further cystoscopies, he has been clear first for 3 months a couple of times and now told next check-up will be 6 months. So worth considering at least asking the question before you decide.

Good wishes to you and your patients

    Thank you Denby and Hero,

My older patient is doing well , the younger one is a little tight in the chest .. so thats worrying me a bit.. Regarding my lovely bladder the consensus is has to go. I think I can look at it in an abstract way and the the extra time I have now with it I’m going to enjoy.. Back to hula hooping and chasing the dogs up and down the garden. I think I’ll get my friends to join in one of those at home online house parties so we can dance. One of my so called friends has invited me to to the 30 day plank challenge!!

It’s interesting having not had BCG for 3 months now my tummy feels better.. it really upset me. Quite sure the hula hoop will be several months after the cystectomy but for now I’m going to be super fit, especially running up and downstairs after the 2 at home.

    funny old world
