How long to recover after TURBT?

Hi Swan173 and welcome to the group. It is not unusual at this stage to have discomfort when peeing. If the TURBT went in to the bladder wall, the wound will be quite deep and usually takes up to 6 weeks to fully recover. Any strenuous activity can aggravate the wound. At about this time, he may notice some blood and clots when peeing. This will be normal so no need for alarm. It is the scab breaking away from the wound as part of the healing problem. There is always the possibility of infection following a TURBT, so it is always wise to drop a sample off at your GP for testing. Best wishes.

Just to add to the above. It is important to drink plenty of water regularly to flush out any debris and help prevent UTIs. Best wishes.

Sympathy to your partner Swan I had my first TURBT last year and can confirm peeing after the op was painful but mine did ease after a while hope it gets better for him soon. Am going in for second TURBT end of the month the other bit that I recall as being uncomfortable was removing the catheter...not something I am looking forward to!

I realised last week that it was after I had forgotten to give my husband his daily cranberry tablets a few weeks back, guess what just like a few years ago he got a UTI and had to have a week's Nitrofurantoin which all left him very washed up. So no more missing out the cranberry now. And my old GP saved me 40 years ago from the onset of cystitis by telling me to drink a whole bottle of lemon barley properly diluted over 24 hours; this worked well. So these are things you may wish, IF your pharmacist approves, to have your partner try.

My first TURBT was evil too, so bad I would've preferred to have an arm, leg, & boobs off than go through that again.  However, my next one was absolutely fine.  Although I do tend to always get a UTI after, a nurse told me that my bladder just doesn't like being messed with.  All the best to you both x
