Morning All. My GP referred me to Urology for a non bladder related issue (Hydrocele). Got a letter today thinking it was my appointment, but it said "You need to book your appointment online". Logged in with a reference number. Given a choice of 3 hospitals. Tried each one and got the message "No appointments available" Had to leave my details with a message saying the hospital will contact me. Not holding my breath. If no contact within 2 weeks, then phone them up. It seems as if the system is now really clogged up and probably accounts for some of the long waiting times people have reported on here. Ah well. Good job it is not urgent. Best wishes.

  • Hi rily

We've had a few of them in the post for one thing & another, sometimes I was able to make an appointment other times not.  I assumed it was a new system.  It may not suite everyone though especially if they don't have internet,  athough there's also a number to ring to book your appointment. I had one letter that said for me to call them by a certain date if I hadn't heard anything.   When I called they said that they hadn't set up the clinic yet, I asked them to explain this but I was still none the wiser.   Perhaps it's to save money where they only set up a clinic when they have so many patients.  But I did get a call exactly one week later & they fitted me in on a cancellation, so that was good.  I got my urology hospital letter as usual though, it wasn't for me to book online myself.  All the best with your Hydrocele!

  • Ah, choose & book. The hospitals I've worked in suffered from that. Children's clinics where everyone books a mid-morning appt & then complain at the time spent there waiting. My clinic which has a short waiting list, so GPs book people in despite it being the wrong specialty. One of my jobs is to triage referrals - I'm sure for some people it delays getting the right appt.

The other issue is being sent to an outreach clinic in a location difficult to access. Our poor NHS is bursting at the seams.

I always accept early morning appointments for that reason, then there's hardly any hold up.  We have to take what we can get I suppose & be grateful.

  • Hi rily

I always knew you were a man with los cajones grandes. I know how uncomfortable that can be so I wish you well and soon.

I may appear to be listening but in my head I'm all at sea.
