Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with TaG1 bladder cancer in November which the hospital said it was successfully removed but will need a check up every 3 months for the next 3 years, also I was told I had Kidney Stones in both Kidneys.
I have been to the doctors a number of times now for the pain I keep getting in my kidney which he keeps giving me antibiotics and pain killers but over the last few weeks I've been having lots of trouble with my bladder, feels like my bladder is constantly full and I have the urge to go to the toilet, when I do go only a small amount of urine comes out yet I never feel empty. Now when I say I have the urge to go it feels as though I'm going to pee myself (but I don't) I'm going on average 4 times an hour and during the night as well. When I went to the doctors again they did a urine sample and there is traces of blood in my urine, they also sent a sample away for analysis but came back as no infection.
I don't know if I'm reading between the lines and coming up with my own assumptions but I've still not heard from my hospital about my follow up to have a cystoscopy as it's been 4-5 months since my initial examination and what with the way my bladder and toilet visits are getting worse I feel as though the "C" has come back.
Is this normal? Your help/advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm sure I'm worrying myself over nothing.
Thank you in advance
Hi and welcome to the community and our group. It is always concerning when things don't seem right and we tend to think the worse. The occasional bleed following a TURBT is not uncommon, but should stop after a few weeks. We can't say if your kidney stones are causing the problem. As regards the frequent urination, are you drinking enough water? Not drinking concentrates the urine and irritates the bladder causing the need to go all time, even when there is nothing there. It does seem a contradiction to drink when you are going all the time, but it does help. It flushes everything out and helps prevent infection. Although it may not immediately cut down on the visits, it leads to a longer, more satisfying pees.
There is usually backlog for follow up cystoscopies, and occasionally we are missed off the list. We learn to try and manage our own appointments by phoning up. Phone the urology waiting list office and give them a nudge and to make sure they have you down. Best wishes.
Hi,Do you ever find it difficult to pass urine ? It sounds as if your bladder is not emptying properly and this needs attention.Kidney stones can cause urinary obstruction but so can cancer.I had the same symptoms, either passing urine all the time or not being able to go at all for hours.I contacted the hospital directly and they did a cystoscopy very soon afterwards.I hope you won’t have to wait long to get checked out.love and best wishes Jane
I am drinking between 2 and 2.5 litres of water per day, I will be calling the hospital tomorrow to chase up an appointment and raise my concerns.
Hi Jane and thank you for your reply.
I don't really have any problems passing but it is only a little amount each time as although I know my bladder is empty it feels as though it isn't hence that's why I'm in the toilet so often, I do try ignoring the bladder full feeling but the feeling seems to worsen the longer I leave it as though I'm going to pee myself.
I've just been reminded by my wife that I also have an enlarged prostate so that maybe putting pressure onto my bladder which is why it may feel full (how could I forget that)
Paul
Hi Paul,The enlarged prostate won’t be helping. Is your pain in your back ? I hope you can get an x ray/scan as well to see what the kidney stones are doing.Love Jane
I have had lower back pain just recently some days worse than others, I just put that down to to much walking/working or standing still for to long.
Hi brozzie
I usually struggle to urinate & just do small amounts constantly after my rigid cystoscopy, although it's not always been like that. It's the most horrible feeling having a full bladder & not being able to go, or just dribble. I'll hopefully get it sorted soon, unless this is the way that it goes after so many rigid cystoscopies. I do hope you get it sorted soon x
