Hi everyone. My twin sister has been battling bladder cancer now for 4 years. We are 29. She has a 9month old little girl, our miracle baby. We never fought she would have babies. When she found out she was pregant.. she got her first cancer free diagnosis. However.. after 3months postbirth it has returned. She underwent surgery after surgery to remove tumours and dead cells around the bladder eventually the muscles int he bladder had enough and she started getting spasms. The spasms were and are constant. She couldn't keep chemo in for it to work and couldnt get surgery because the spasms prevented them from doing what they needed to do. She found an exercise to stop the spasms and very bravely underwent around 4 surgeries with NO anesthetic to burn away the tumours and lining of bladder. The last surgery made them concerned to that it had spread. MRI results showed a mass in kidneys and left lung. This is all she has told us she is very private. She is I assume stage 4, she doesnt like to share too much.

They have started her on GEMCIS chemo 6 cycles over 24 weeks weekly. This is there last try. After 4 years they said there is nothing they can do. RC is off the table because of her spasms as they risk heart attack during surgery. She is a mess she is so sick her face is swole she has wee cuts all over her mouth and chin. She is exhausted and sick and is only mid way through first cycle. She has been through hell the last 4 years through equipment being left in bladder a trainee surgeon almost rupturing an absess and destroying her uretha when panicking and pulling out from bladder people attacking her whilst getting chemo consultants coming from everywhere because her bladder is so unique they dont know how to treat it.

Please tell me this is like someone elses story and there is light at the end of the tunnel. This is horrible shes my twin sister. We are only 29. I cannot go on without her

  • Hi and welcome to the community, although a welcome never seems appropriate. Your sister has been through a lot already and having an incompetent doctor hasn't helped. We have had members here in the past where gem/cis has helped and others on trials with new drugs. Your sister may like to enquire about any new trials. I had gem/cis and radiotherapy, but did not have the complications your sister has. Hopefully, someone may be along with some better information. Wishing you and your family and your new niece Best Wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • FDTCST91,

I'm so sorry that I can't be of much help to you & your dear twin sister, just to say that I wish you both the very best , & that I'm thinking of you.  If ever you want to talk we are all here for you xxx

  • Hello FDTCST91

I've not encountered this type of bladder condition before. My view is that, given how young your sister is, you should find a leading bladder consultant at one of the top urological centres in the UK, for example UCLH, London; Royal Berks, Reading; Southmead, Bristol; Cambridge University Hospital. Once you've found someone, get your GP to refer you.

I have learned over the last four years that many regional hospitals do not have the level of expertise for outside the norm conditions and treatment can vary.

    I wish you both well.

    CB.

I may appear to be listening but in my head I'm all at sea.

  • Hi FDTCST91,I’m so sorry to hear about your sisters cancer and the bad treatment she has received.I would echo what CB has suggested.I had treatment at Southmead hospital in Bristol and it is a centre of excellence for urology.Best wishes.Jane xx
