hi all I am now back from hospital after my op . The op took 9 hours as I had addeshions from previous surgery . Mr Anning was brilliant he managed to do it all robotically that’s why it took so long .Very sick after op spent 3 days in intensive care then up to ward for 3 days now I start the long recovery road been a bit down today though as I feel I have lost a big support network around me Liz x
Hi . Wishing you well with your recovery. I am sure if you have any post op questions, there will be someone here with experience to help. Best wishes.
Hi Liz, welcome home to your own bed. It seems very quick to be out of hospital after such a long op so you must have made great progress. I expect everyone feels anxious when they leave the support of the nursing team after a major op, though hopefully you have a phone contact for a CNS? And you have us xxx Best thing is you are disease free, now all you have to do is rest and recover. Sending you healing thoughts. x
Hi Liz,I forgot to say if you have stairs do take care.I found I was very wobbly for a couple of days after I came home. The hospital will be phoning you every week so you will still have some support from them for a while yet.I hope you are not in too much pain ? The abdominal swelling takes a while to go down I think.I had pain & swelling at the robotic scar sites but that got better over time.I managed just with paracetamol but that was because I didn’t want to take any of the constipating pain killers.Take care love Jane xxx
Good to hear you are safely over that hurdle. Feeling down is quite common - just take things a day at a time & cosset yourself. Just getting up & dressed will require a rest afterwards. I kept a kind of diary to note each small new achievement, which helped when I felt progress was frustratingly slow.
Try to keep eating little & often, drink plenty & build up the walking little by little. Two short walks are better than one long one. Hope all continues well.
Hi woodyl , it sounds like it all went to plan which is great news. That's the minimum time in hospital after a big op like that so take that as a positive.
I felt very depressed after thinking I would never get back to full health so to speak. You will get there but very slowly, literally 1 step forward 2 back it felt like. A few months on and it will get easier. Just take it slowly and plenty of rest, fluids and small meals.
It can be daunting leaving all the support you had in the hospital but there always there if you need them . My cystectony nurse was brilliant , called me every week to check and had an email address for questions. Good luck.
Hi Woodyl
For some reason I missed this but now I have caught up with you. Congratulations on a good recovery. Will be my turn soon so am heartened to read your post.
Please keep in touch and let us know how things are.
Inanna xx
