I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone here and wish you all a very Happy Christmas.I doubt I would have coped well with this year if I hadn't had such brilliant help and support from this board. My best wishes for 2020.Love Jane XX
Thanks for your support too Jane. Hoping your recovery will go from strength to strength in 2020, and by early spring you will be out working in your garden again, alongside your beloved mum. xxx
Silly question Jane, but are you a registered carer? I feel you should contact your Carers Association and or Social Services to request a reassessment of your needs now you have had this major surgery. For instance might you be entitled to be loaned a hoist to help you get Mum in and out of bed, that you didn't need before? As my dad used to say, if you don't ask you don't get. If they can't/won't, even try local Rotary Club, Lions etc?
Happy Christmas to all,
Denby
Thanks Herothedog,I managed to do a couple of hours in the garden today, just collecting up leaves and apples but it all helps. It is a long terraced garden so each level has a different feel to it.Unfortunately it is some years since mum has been able to access the garden. It is very sad as she used to love gardening.I have made a little area nearer the house that I hope she will be able get to when she comes home.We have a good sized balcony on the ground floor and she is able to sit there and also outside the kitchen on the floor below.Love Jane XX
Hi Denby,I am not a registered carer though the health centre know I am mum's carer.Mum had an assessment shortly before my operation.Luckily we have all the equipment we need at home to manage.Although mum's mobility is very poor she is still able to get herself up from the bed and to the bathroom opposite.I am confident that I will manage as I have already helped her at the care home a few times since my surgery. My concern is being able to push her wheelchair on the rare occasions we have to go out in my partner or sister's car.I am getting stronger though and am due to have an iron infusion which should help further.Wishing you and Mr D a very Happy Christmas.Love Jane XXX
