Hi Inanna my 1st TURBT done in Feb 2019 was under Spinal injection ,then my 2nd & 3rd TURBT done in Feb & May this was done with a GA having had both my choice would be General anaesthetic evert time now cheers harry
Hey Lucy It may not be the same for everyone my 1st with spinal was not easy to locate the right place in my back so a few prodding with a needle to find right spot, 2nd time it took a long time to find it again but it never worked right so I was given GA .that put me off spinal the 3rd time I had a GA no trying spinal first. I had almost the same problem when I had knee joint replacement to both knees 1st one 10 years ago 2nd 3 years ago .harry x
Hi Lucy if you get the chance to have spinal try it may work great for you. If I had problems with a GA I would try for it again but my GA went well for me last 2 times . harry x
I had a spinal because of previous strokes and chest condition. No problem. Nurse gave me a choice of music from her smart phone. Staff gave constant re-assurance. Provides less recuperation time. Only in hospital one night. Catheter removed in the morning. Discharged after passing urine.
Thanks Harry, certainly worth thinking about if I need another TURBT.

I'm thinking spinal too, I felt them pull the tube out of my throat last time & am worried about what I may feel next time! I always did really well with the GA at my local hospital, but not at the city hospital. Actually I was wondering if it's because I've had a fair few & my bladder's sick of it all now. I'm having trouble wee-ing for ages after as my bladder's traumatised, & then there's the UTI that I need 2 lots of antibiotics to clear it up. I'd like to talk to someone about it but since my lovely nurse retired I don't know who. I just feel that I've had enough of it now, although I once began to feel quite relaxed about it all. Sorry I needed to get that all out .
Hope everyone's doing as well as can be expected xxx
Aww Blanket, feel free to unload on us, we totally get it. I think you've had more GA's on me and I feel overloaded with them. I really think you need a proper support person...how about trying to discuss issues of anaesthesia and UTI's with your GP before your next cystoscopy, when you are feeling well? As far as I understand GPs are supposed to be our over-arching care providers, that's why they get copied in to all our letters etc. Sending you love and virtual hugs. xxx
