Hi . Sorry you've not had a reply yet. I can't help with your question, but I am sure someone will be along with advice. The email notifications have not been working today, so maybe people have not picked up your post yet. Best wishes.
Hi
I'm sorry that I can't answer your question and can only suggest that you might want to repost your question into our Ask a Nurse page where one of the specialist nurses maybe able to answer your question if they are unable to they will give you some advice.
We also have a Chemotherapy forum group where the friendly members might be able to help you.
Each month we have a chemo chat session but unfortunately the November Chemo Chat one is about to close but you can still ask the question there if you want and hopefully someone will be able to help you.
The new session will be opened up on the 1st.
Hope the treatment and the minor surgery goes well.
Ian
Hi
I'm a volunteer community champion from the Kidney cancer group. I'm sorry for the delay in replying. As @rily said, we've not had email notifications recently
Unfortunately I don't know about having a drain post- nephrectomy, nor of having chemo for kidney cancer.-
I suggest you ask the helpline on 0808 808 0000, 8 am to 8pm, 7 days a week
Sorry, this overlapped with 's reply
Having a bit more of a think would it be possible to clarify if husband has a nephrostomy which is where a tube is inserted into the kidney and drains into a bag.
Whilst a nephrectomy is the procedure to remove a damaged kidney or remove a kidney for transplant.
It might also be handy to know the reason for having chemo.
Knowing the above will help others to answer your question especially Ask a Nurse which I strongly suggest to repost your question to them as soon as possible as it may mean that hubby will need a course of antibiotics and other tests before the surgery can take place.
If we can help with anything else please come back to us.
Regard
Ian
Hi its a nephrostomy that he has the tube goes into his back to drain the kidney he is having palliative chemo as he has incurable blabber cancer which has spread
Hi Rudl
In my experience of having a nephrostomy, changing the stents usually resulted in an infection so I was given pre-emptive antibiotics just in case. The chemo does damage the immune system but my medics went ahead and changed the stents even though I felt grim at the time.
Given that each one of us is different, I think that the best person to ask is your CNS.
