Hello everyone,

This is my first time on chat but have been reading all of the chats and you are all so helpful and supportive to each other.

My husband has been diagnosed with PT1 Grade 3 cancer and has already had TURBT and the tumours removes with a dose of chemo directly into the bladder.

He is due to have another biopsy in a couple of weeks but I am baffled to as why the doctors have not yet started the BCG treatment if they know what the grade etc is. They did say that there was no point in putting any more chemo into the bladder as it would not work.

Has anyone else had similar?

Thank you

  • Hello and welcome to the group. Your husband's treatment sounds fairly standard and in line with guidelines. The follow up TURBT is usually just a mopping up procedure to give them a look at how things have gone and to clear up any residue they may have missed. The follow up is usually a lot less severe than the first. The bladder then needs to heal for several weeks before BCG treatment can begin. The BCG is designed mainly to try and prevent any recurrences. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

    Thank you Rily

  • Hello Nij, sorry to hear about your husband but luckily there are many possible treatments for bladder cancer and you are just at the beginning of things. I am having BCG (up to dose 18 now), before the first dose I had two TURBTs and then a few weeks healing time. It was probably 4 months after diagnosis before the treatment started. Bearing in mind the tumours are gone, there isn't a big need to rush. At least you will get a bit of a rest over Christmas. Sending best wishes.

Thank you and I hope he gets a rest over Christmas.

    Thank you again.

  • Yes, as already said, this is the gold standard procedure with G3. They double check to ensure the staging (in this case T1) is correct, that there is no muscle involvement, to be sure BCG immunotherapy is a good option. BCG is not a cure in many cases, but may deter recurrence, so keeping under review is important.

Between us we've experienced most options, so can add info as needed! Hope all goes well.
