.Thought I would share my latest news for regular bloggers and for newbies. Following diagnosis of BC Grade 2 last year I had tumour removed followed by nine sessions of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiotherapy which was at times tiring but better than the option of bladder removal. I was discharged from Oncology department and had two clear flexible cystoscopies but the following flexi highlighted a small superficial tumour which I had removed in September this year. The Consultant assured me the tumour had been small and the biopsy result was low grade cancer. The Consultant suggested my bladder should be examined again through rigid cystoscopy. Following a pre booked holiday to Cyprus in October(wonderful) I waited and waited for my appointment but nothing was forthcoming. I rang the Urology waiting list office a week ago and they asked would I consider treatment with a different consultant or at another hospital to which I said yes. On Thursday afternoon this week I received a phone call saying they had a cancellation for Yesterday at Chorley Hospital, I usually attend Preston Royal. I said ok no problem. When I arrived at Chorley day patients department 07.30am I was given the usual BP, heart, temperature tests and told to wait. The surgeon arrived and told me there was an extreme bed shortage and highlighted there was a strong possibility I would be sent home. At 1.00pm I was taken to theatre for my procedure. I had a spinal anaesthetic and fifteen minutes later the surgeon told me my bladder looked clear and only a small red lesion probably cause by radiotherapy was present. When I went to recovery with a welcome cup of tea and biscuits the staff said they were struggling to find me a ward to recover on. Moreover, they said my procedure was almost cancelled but the staff insisted it took place. Well done! I was eventually moved to a ward to recover and went home at 6.00 pm.A long and tiring day.Thank You again wonderful NHS staff for the care I was given this time at Chorley Hospital. Thank Goodness we didn’t get a visit from Boris! I will see my consultant in three weeks and have a flexible cystoscopy in four months. Hope all is well

Hi . Nice to hear from you. Great news that all is clear and the radiotherapy has worked, albeit with a blip along the way. The red patches left by the RT can last a few years, but have never caused me any problems. A good doctor/nurse can spot the difference between these and anything new. Good to know the staff went out of their way to get you in. For future reference, it is always best to phone up a couple of weeks before your flexi is due to give them a nudge, otherwise you tend to slip down the list. I always let them know I am available to travel within reason. Pity you did not see Boris. Sounds like you enjoyed your holiday and wishing you many more. Best wishes and good health going forward. I will raise a glass to your future good health. Best wishes.
Marvellous news Garviv. Well done for chasing the appointment and well done brilliant NHS care. Glad Boris wasn't about...would be enough to cause me a relapse! x
