Urine test showing leukocytes yet again. Had blood test (fine), urine tested in lab (told no significant growth) US scan of kidneys and bladder (told both fine) and even ECG (awaiting GP appointmento discuss). Given yet more antibiotics.... all have been different to the one before and now on my fourth course. What's going on? No real symptoms unless being a bit bloated and sweaty at times cou
s. Also back pain but may be muscoskeletal or refered from hip
Hi Plantaholic, I learned something useful from our old GP about 20 years ago when then mid-teen daughter caught a mystery virus that was going the rounds. Your stomach apparently is surrounded by lymph glands. When your body is fighting an infection, these can swell up, squashing the stomach making you feel nauseous possibly, and or making you feel bloated-you literally are and its internal swelling as the gland are in overdrive, not wind. So this could relate to actually having an infection as obviously could the feeling sweaty. Given the really dire worries about the future usefulness of antibiotics, I personally think if the new lot don't conclusively knock out the infection it's reasonable to insist they test a sample to decide on which antibiotic is actually the correct one, not just keep guessing.
Meantime it's extremely important, always in consultation with your pharmacist of course, to get some good quality 'gut-friendly bug' capsules to help restore order in your intestines and bowel. The 'biome' [total population of good bacteria] needs to be right for you to get all the nutrition from your food, never mind feel better.
Also I don't know whether you use any supplements [again check with a pharmacist who knows all about you] but I put my husband on cranberry tablets, one a day with evening meal, after several UTIs in a year or so, and he hasn't had another one since. Cranberry apparently discourages bad bugs from sticking to the lining of your urinary tract. He hasn't had any side effects from the cranberry and tablets give a more certain dose than juice drinks, most of which have sugar tending to feed the infection and or chemical sweeteners.
Lastly I don't know what beverages you favour, you may or may not have seen my previous posts about my GP 40 years ago when I had the start of cystitis. [I recognised it as I'd had it good and properly a year or so previously]. He recommended Lemon Barley Water, properly diluted, and it got rid of it in my case without needing to go back for antibiotics. [By the way the proper stuff, not the 'fruit and barley' ones, it's something to do with the effect of the barley on the urinary tract pH, ie acid/alkali balance I believe.]
I do hope the info and 3 suggestions prove useful to keep your bladder Leukocycte free..

Hi Teaswill. I submitted a sample because I felt bloated and achy. Also had lower back pain and sweats. Leucocytes were detected. However, given the number of different antibiotics I have had over the past year, I am beginning to wonder if they are contributing to the bloating.
Hi . Over the years I have been recommended cranberry juice by a number of nurses. There is no real scientific evidence to support it does any good . Most of the claims are by the people who produce the stuff. It will not cure or prevent bladder cancer, but there is some slight evidence that it can cleanse the bladder and help prevent UTIs. I don't believe it has any magical powers, but saying that, I always have a glass with my breakfast Just the supermarket stuff which is very diluted but who knows ? Best wishes.
