One thing I learned during my diagnosis and treatment period was to keep a record of appointments and a file of follow up letters. This gave me a history of events to refer back to and helped me manage my meetings with consultants and nurses.
You do have to manage your progress rather than allow the NHS admin machine to do that for you. The NHS admits its admin system is poor and patients get missed.
I'm on annual checks now and my consultant appointment is booked 11 months in advance but I still have to chase up an appointment for a CT scan 4 weeks before I see him. It's not joined up.
