Hi everyone
I’m hoping I can draw from the wisdom here. I am 4 years into recovery from womb cancer that was successfully treated by surgery only, but as is normal triggered menopause for me.
Things have been fine until the last 2 months. I experienced a sudden onset of lower abdominal pain which has eased but not gone away and is triggered by movement and any sort of physical activity. Blood was also present in a urine sample taken by the hospital. Over the last 2 months blood started to appear in my urine and this is getting heavier and more frequent. I have also had 2 mixed growth results in 2 recent urine tests so I am now going to be referred to urology. I have had a lot of gynae investigations to rule out a return of the womb cancer as any bleeding post menopause is a concern however at the moment a gynae problem is ruled out and the bleeding does seem to be coming from the urethra.
I wanted to ask about the sorts of symptoms people experienced before diagnosis because I am pretty terrified of being diagnosed with the big c again. According to the MhS website, early menopause can be a cause of bladder cancer.
Thank you
Katie
Hi and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear of your concerns. It must be extra worrying for you considering your earlier experiences. The not knowing and uncertainty can be an anxious time. The symptoms you describe can be associated with bladder cancer, but of course could be caused by other things. I have not heard of bladder cancer being associated with menopause. Firstly, be aware that if it does turn out to be BC, it can be treated successfully. When you have your urology appointment, you may have a simple ultrasound test, but more likely a flexible cystoscopy. This is a camera in to your bladder to see what is going on. It is a painless, maybe slightly uncomfortable procedure, and you will be able to see for yourself on screen if there is anything there. Please feel free to ask any questions as many of us have been there. Best wishes.
