An update from my post two weeks ago when my husband had his bladder punctured twice while having two further tumours removed. Unfortunately he developed a horrendous infection and was rushed back into hospital by ambulance on Monday and has been fighting it ever since but today seemed to be turning a corner thank goodness! We also discovered the pathology results today and he will need six chemo sessions when he is stronger. I think this has been the longest two weeks ever. I am so worried for him that he has further urine infections as last time he had several following his chemo. Is it common to suffer numerous infections following a turbt? I feel so sorry for him but all I can do is be there for him x
Hi Roxy204. Sorry to hear your husband had a bad turn, but good to know he is picking up. I don't think it is common for people to have numerous infections following a TURBT, but not unusual as we have seen it on here before. It seems some people don't get on very well with catheters. Make sure he drinks water regularly as this can help prevent UTIs. It sounds as if you are looking after him well. I hope he feels better soon. Best wishes.
Oh gosh, that sound terrible Roxy! I always fear having my bladder ruptured whist having the rigid cysto. More often than not I get a UTI after it too, twice I've had E. coli. Although I wasn't rushed to hospital but I usually end up calling 111 as I feel so ill with it, & it seems to happen on a bank holiday or a weekend so it's not like I can nip up & see the nurse to get anti biotics.
Thinking of you both, & wishing you all the best with the treatment xxx
I'm so sorry to hear this Roxy204.How horrible for your husband and very stressful for you as well.I seem to have had my fair share of infections after TURBT.This year though instead of e-coli, I've ended up with a rarer strain of streptococcus associated with surgical procedures.I'm on the 2nd course of antibiotics and fingers crossed it will go as its been a rotten infection. My best wishes to you both.I hope your husband gets better as quickly as possible.Jane xx
Oh dear that sounds unpleasant Winkers! For the first time ever my antibiotics didn't work the last time either. The Dr suggested I'd had a bad reaction & was reluctant to give me any more. I hadn't, as previous bad reactions caused anaphlaxis. One thing you learn with this is that you get to know your own body, that is until something new happens.
Not at all Blanket. I hope you r ok.
My husband got home tonight thankfully. He has to get bloods done on Tuesday then again when we have an appointment with the cancer nurse prior to chemo. On discharge we were informed that he actuay had sepsis! I knew he was ill but that was a shock. Just chemo to go now
