Hi am not the patient my husband is 5 weeks ago he had a turbt at the same time as having his colon removed as his bowel ruptured we have had plenty of chats with the consultant who removed the colon but none with the consultant who done the turbt and have heard nothing since my husband came home from hospital we have a appointment with our gp on Wednesday as both our heads are busting with everything what's happening and getting no answers

  • I do hope you get some help on Wednesday.Your husband has been through an awful lot and it can't be easy for either of you.I presume your husband had biopsies during his Turbt ? Waiting for results seems to take forever and sometimes you do have to chase them up as they can go astray. How is your husband feeling now ? Best wishes.Jane

  • Dear Rudi Lorrie and Husband, so sorry to hear you have been left to feel you're getting no answers. You've come to the right place now.

I would suggest as your husband and you have been through so much and understandably feel your heads are busting, take a third person in to the GPs with you to makes notes of what you ask and what answers you get. It will be hard to remember when you get home. Also they may be able to help make sure, if you write a 'shopping list' of questions beforehand, that you don't miss any out. I think you would do well to call the receptionist in the morning and ask them to book you a double appointment. Most would rather do that than have you run over, and it cuts the chance of them rushing you.

As already said, assuming as normal they took biopsies it does take several weeks for the results to get back. But 5 weeks is long. Commonly after the results do get sent, before they tell you there will be a Multi Disciplinary Team [MDT] meeting once a week at which they discuss all the patients and decide the best way/ways forward. Then at last you get called in to be told and offered suitable further treatment. Just in case this happens before you are back on here, it's very wise to be cautious of taking an on-the-spot decision between different options if you get offered a choice. On here you will find several people who have taken each of the different choices that might come up and can tell you more to help you and your husband make a choice that is right for you both. Macmilan offer lots of info, much much more than we ever had from our hospital., also the  'Ask a nurse' forum.

    All the best,

    Denby [bladder cancer patient's wife]

  • Hi Rudi, it is horrible not knowing what the plans are but with the TURBT biopsy it does take quite a while before you find out what's happening with treatment.

I would certainly mention to your GP that you have not heard anything and they should be able to point you in the right direction to chase it up. I really don't think the GP will give you any answers with the results though as it will be the consultant who will plan the next course of action in a MDT meeting , they have once a week.

I have found results are always slower this time of year with school holidays unfortunately. Hope you hear soon and good luck.

  • Hi Rudie lorrie, sounds as though you have had a tough time. I'm waiting for the results of my TURBT too, so sympathies. Hopefully good news.

Hi guys and thanks to you all for replying got on really well today at the gp got some answers to my questions it looks like my husband has some rare condition which has caused lots of scarring to his liver kidneys bowels ect basically his whole inside couldn't get answers to what caused it all but they are pretty sure it's not down to cancer they think it could be down to his angklosing spondylitis or his medication he has to take for it he has problems with his lungs at the moment and has regular scans on them so just hoping the the 2 growths he has on them are turn out to be just scarring

  • Hi . It sounds as if your husband has a lot going on, but it does seem as though things are looking positive. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
