Evening all,

I’ve typed this post out about 6 times now and just can’t quite put into word what I want to say/ask...

Basically my dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer almost 10 years ago. He refuses to give us anything other than basic information about what’s happening or tell us what the doctors and consultants have said at his appointments. He won’t let my mum go to any of the appointments with him and insists on being dropped off and picked up at the end of his appointments.

We know his bladder cancer has spread as amongst other things he’s recently had a kidney removed.

Hes just been called back for a check up and been told he’s got to have an urgent ultrasound. My mum has said that he’s also had to stop his blood pressure medication with immediate effect as his blood pressure has dropped really low and he’s got lumps in his groin that have just appeared.

He’s tried to convince my mum that the lump is something that may have been left inside him during the surgery.

I don’t really know what I’m asking or looking for advice on, but in my mind and from what I’ve read (I know the internet is the worst place to be reading up) but I believe we may now be in the route of just managing to live with the cancer rather than now trying to eradicate it.

Sorry for waffling but any thoughts on our situation would be great x

  • Hi and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear about your dad. We know bladder cancer has a habit of recurring and your dad has done well to keep it under control for so long. We are monitored regularly and any recurrences can be treated. Without knowing the full story, it would be difficult for anyone to offer any advice. The new lump may not be associated with the bladder cancer, but could be something different. Everyone deals with their cancer in different ways and it sounds as though your dad may think he is protecting the family by keeping things to himself. Sorry I couldn't offer anything more positive. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
